If you couldn’t make it to Milan in April for the annual furniture fair, EuroCucina and International Bathroom Exhibition, join The Kitchen & Bathroom Blog’s Melanie Gardener as she walks you through the main trends and themes from this year’s fair. With a focus on kitchens, bathrooms and appliances, plus a handy directory, you’ll feel as though you were strolling through the halls at the Rho Fiera showgrounds.

The kitchen displays showcased an emphasis on the home as a refuge, a space to relax and unwind, with a huge focus on the idea of convivial living. Organic shapes and soft edges created a sense of calm with a reflection of nature indoors. Textural and sensory engagement were high on the list of priorities, with colour and metallics playing their part.

In the bathroom halls, overwhelmingly the manufacturers showcased ideas and designs that enhanced wellness in an even deeper sense than previous years. Many products had a timeless quality that brought a sense of refined luxury to the bathroom, with plenty of nostalgic themes that took inspiration from simpler times. Natural forms, shapes and materials were used to highlight a sense of calm and peace.

Technology was at the forefront in the appliance stands, with a massive emphasis on the user and their needs, and how design and technology could combine to create a personalised experience. With plenty of user-driven innovation on display, the focus was on appliances that delivered precise cooking, high performance and automated controls.
