KBDi welcomes those involved in kitchen and bathroom design to join our community

Our members are designers, students, cabinetmakers, builders, tradespeople and industry suppliers.

KBDi Student Membership

Student Membership is open to individuals currently undertaking study in a design-related discipline and not practising as designers.

Criteria

To apply for KBDi Student Membership, an applicant must be enrolled and participating in one of the following:

  • Certificate IV in Kitchens, Bathrooms & Interior Spaces
  • Diploma of Interior Design & Decoration
  • Bachelor of Design (Interiors)
  • Bachelor of Architecture or Interior Architecture
  • Diploma of Building Design

It should be noted that:

  • Student Membership may be allocated once only, for a maximum duration of two continuous years. At the commencement of the third year, the Member will be upgraded (at the relevant cost) to Associate Member or Designer Member (see criteria for each). In special cases, KBDi may offer a Graduate Membership instead.
  • A statement of enrolment (or sufficient evidence of same) is required each year to confirm Student status.

KBDi Membership for Designers

Membership is open to individuals who work in the kitchen and bathroom industry. This includes kitchen, bathroom or interior designers or design consultants, cabinetmakers and tradespeople who design kitchens and bathrooms.

Member Levels

All new members are automatically assigned to the Associate Level until the relevant evidence is approved by KBDi.

This membership level is assigned to those who work in the kitchen and bathroom industry, but do not have formal design qualifications or extensive (validated) experience in design.

Criteria

This level is assigned to members who do not have, or have not provided evidence of, a formal design qualification or extensive experience in design, and are actively working as one of the following:

  • a host, consultant or designer working independently or for a business
  • a consultant working in a kitchen or bathroom related industry
  • a qualified cabinetmaker, plumber or tiler offering kitchen and/or bathroom design services
  • in the employ (in any capacity) of a current financial KBDi Business Member

All new members are assigned to this level until relevant evidence is approved by KBDi.

This membership level is assigned to those who work in the kitchen and bathroom industry, and have attained a formal qualification and/or can provide evidence of experience as a kitchen and/or bathroom designer.

Criteria

To be upgraded to the KBDi Designer level, a member must fit in one of the two criteria below:

  1. Criteria based on qualifications
    • Provide evidence of a formal qualification from a Registered Training Organisation, University or College (nationally recognised training), including:
      • Cert IV in Kitchens, Bathrooms and Interior Spaces
      • Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration
      • Bachelor of Design (Interiors)
      • Bachelor of Architecture or Interior Architecture
      • Diploma of Building Design
      • Overseas study deemed equivalent to above by KBDi

  2. Criteria based on experience
    • Provide evidence of significant industry experience including:
      • a minimum of three (3) years experience as a designer (preferably but not exclusively in kitchen and bathroom design)
      • a general work history outlining the above period, including activities undertaken in role, scope of projects etc.
      • the name and contact details of a referee
      • three client references/testimonials attesting to your ability as a designer

This level is the highest level of membership available and is awarded to those who have successfully completed the KBDi Accreditation Program, earning the privileges of using the post nominals CKD Au (KBDi Certified Kitchen Designer) and/or CBD Au (KBDi Certified Bathroom Designer).

Criteria

To be awarded the status of a KBDi Certified Designer, a member must meet the criteria below:

  • Have completed four continuous years of relevant experience working as a designer of kitchens (for CKD Au) and/or bathrooms (for CBD Au)
  • Have completed the appropriate educational qualification [Cert IV in the Design of Kitchens, Bathrooms and Interior Spaces (specialty in Kitchen &/or Bathroom Design)] or equivalent proven experience.
  • Have successfully completed the KBDi Accreditation Program.
  • Maintains a level of currency in the industry and commits to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) each year.
