Bright and bold bathrooms

While we often see themes of zen and relaxation inspiring bathroom designs, there is an equal desire for spaces that spark energy and enthusiasm for the day ahead. In this feature, we’re sharing five fabulous bathrooms with bold palettes and delightful design features that meet the brief for lively spaces.

A creative-industry client wanted a colourful and bold statement bathroom, and Melbourne’s Carmel Wylie (GIA Renovations) made the winning play. A dynamic checkerboard floor (with Perini Seville ‘Grass’ and ‘Butter’ tiles) sets the scene. Fluted marble mosaics and pixel-green gloss wall tiles add an extra pop, while brushed copper tapware and accessories add just the right amount of glimmer.

Rich jewel-toned blue and green tiles take centre stage in this beautiful bathroom, designed by Sydney’s Lyndel Donaldson (Designstory Interiors). Aged limestone floor and wall tiles balance the space, and aged brass tapware and accessories add an old-world aesthetic.

Melbourne designer Georgette Criticos (GIA Renovations) worked closely with her clients to create this pretty-as-a-picture bathroom for two young girls. Rosa Marble crazy pavers add colour, texture and pattern to the warm and lively space, while detailed oak joinery and brushed brass fittings add class and style.
Bold Bathrooms | Olivia Cirocco | GIA Renovations

Melbourne’s Olivia Cirocco (GIA Renovations) created an ensuite oozing elegance and energy for her Mount Martha clients. A statement marble vanity top with exquisite, fluted detailing is the centrepiece of this bathroom. Dynamic Colour Stone Hex Honed mosaic tiles add movement and joy, and white gloss Zellige ties unify the space.

Olivia’s brief for this project was clear; her clients called for a bathroom that radiated ‘warmth and playfulness’ with a colour palette that invoked ‘comfort and liveliness’. The Melbourne designer delivered, creating a space that packed all the punches with some bold and brave installations. A wavy velvet mirror is a highlight in the room, and a custard-coloured basin offers a delicious visual treat. Caido Red tumbled travertine and soft blush tiles laid in a checkerboard pattern add playfulness and texture, and dotty oak robe hooks add an element of fun.

All of the designers above are competing for titles in this year’s KBDi Design Awards program. We wish them all the best of luck and look forward to announcing the winners at our gala event in Melbourne on 17 August.
