In the heart of Vaucluse, Sydney, the historic butcher shop on Hopetoun Avenue has undergone a remarkable transformation. Reimagined by Yuraisha Flaxman of Project Y, this once-bustling shop is now a luxurious three-story residence, with its kitchen standing out as the jewel of the home.
For the owners—avid art collectors—creating a kitchen that balanced character, sophistication, and functionality was paramount. The narrow layout posed challenges, limiting structural changes, but inspired creative solutions that celebrated the space's heritage while embracing a bold, modern vision.
At the core of the design is the striking “Bean Counter” green cabinetry by Porter’s Paints, paired with Polytec Boston Oak joinery. This vibrant palette, reminiscent of the lush surroundings, is elevated by Calacatta Monet marble countertops and splashbacks with dramatic green and brown veining. The interplay of these elements creates a luxurious yet welcoming atmosphere.
French oak herringbone flooring, black steel windows, reeded glass, and intricate wainscoting add depth and texture, seamlessly blending traditional and contemporary styles.
To complete the space, Momo Handles’ Bellevue Lined Cabinet Range in Brushed Satin Brass was chosen for its ribbed detailing and timeless appeal. These handles not only tie the design together but also offer a tactile sense of luxury.
“The Bellevue handles provided the perfect finishing touch,” explains Yuraisha Flaxman. “Their weight and quality added a layer of sophistication that resonated with the homeowners, enhancing the everyday experience in the kitchen.”
